Launch the UNSCRIPTED Campaign

Looking for a creative way to engage men? This campaign:

Invites them in with curiosity

Centers their experiences through storytelling

Sparks conversations around mental health, dating, vulnerability, sex, and violence

Unpacks the scripts men are taught from a young age

What makes this campaign unique?

This campaign meets the moment, one where many young men are struggling with connection and longing to feel seen. In fact, 65% of young men say “no one really knows me.” At the same time, they’re navigating digital influences that often deepen that sense of isolation.

Unscripted offers an alternative: a space for authenticity, belonging, community, and a call to leadership.

It builds a new, shared language around manhood. Unscripted men are free to be themselves. They are no longer scripted – constrained by the rigid rules someone else wrote for them.

This campaign strives to inspire cultural shifts on your campus so when you look around, you see:

A community of men who are connected to each other.

A community of men who are empowered in who they are.

A community of men who lead with compassion.

A community of men who are ready to end violence.

A community of men who are Unscripted.

How can I launch this campaign?

ABOUT FREE TRAINING:

Beginning in June 2026, FUTURES will be providing free virtual training on key concepts, best practices, and resources for engaging men in violence prevention, healthy relationships, and mental health education, using Unscripted as a key tool. Training will also prepare participants on how to bring Unscripted to their campuses (unless a campus is funded, campuses will not be expected or required to run Unscripted next academic year).

Details:

  • June Cohort: Live sessions on Mondays, 1:00-3:00pm ET (60 minutes of pre-session work required per week).
  • July Cohort: Live sessions on Wednesdays, 1:00-3:00pm ET (60 minutes of pre-session work required per week).

Training Topics:

  1. Key Concepts & Learning Objectives
  2. Organizing Strategies
  3. Messaging Strategies
  4. Educational Design Strategies
  5. Readiness Planning

$4K MICRO-GRANTS FOR CAMPUSES:

Up to twenty micro-grants will be awarded by FUTURES to support Unscripted campaign activities during the 2026-2027 Academic Year. Examples of how the funding can be used are: Printing, space rentals, video or arts equipment, food, or student stipends.

Who should apply? Staff, faculty, or campus offices focused on health promotion or violence prevention — especially those already engaging men in this work or looking to grow these efforts. While campuses do not need robust engaging men efforts already, capacity to effectively run campaign activities—including the background of staff and support of the institution—will be selection criteria. Campuses selected will be expected to attend training (see below) in either June or July, in addition to regular cohort meetings throughout the academic year.

The toolkit will support you in encouraging honest conversations about manhood, collecting and sharing authentic student stories, and creating environments where connection and leadership can grow.

What’s included in the free Toolkit?

  • Customizable campaign posters to spark curiosity
  • Fun and creative tabling materials to draw people in
  • Detailed templates for hosting Unscripted events to build community and connection, from story slams to art installations
  • Instructions on how to use the toolkit materials

Who created the campaign?

Unscripted is the signature national campaign of CATAPULT: Campus Action for Healthy Manhood, an initiative by Futures Without Violence designed to grow the leadership of college men to end violence through care, connection, and accountability.

We created Unscripted to explore how expectations around manhood shape our relationships, our mental health, and our campus communities, and ask whether these “scripts” help us or hold us back.

If you’re looking for additional strategies and materials to engage men, check out our other CATAPULT resources.

Follow, Join the Conversation, and Share Your Campus Photos!

Stay up to date with the campaign by following Unscripted on social media. Share your campus campaign stories, photos, and reflections with #DitchTheScript and connect with campuses nationwide who are part of the movement.
